Business & Shop Name Generators
Name your shop or brand with confidence. These generators produce memorable, brandable business names for Etsy, coffee shops and new ventures — and you can check the domain instantly.
Three different things people mean by “is this name available?”
A business name is the only kind on this site where getting it wrong arrives with an invoice attached. Generating candidates is the easy part. The work is checking a shortlist against three separate systems that do not talk to each other — and understanding that clearing one of them tells you nothing whatsoever about the other two.
Domain, registration and trademark are three separate checks
A free .com tells you only that nobody has bought that domain. Entity registration — an LLC with your state, a company with Companies House — checks your name against other registered entities in one jurisdiction, and clerks routinely approve names that would lose a trademark dispute the following year. Trademark is the check that decides whether you can keep trading under the name at all, and it turns on likelihood of confusion with an existing mark in a related class rather than on identical spelling. Run all three before you print anything.
Descriptive names are the weakest to own
Trademark strength runs along a recognised spectrum: generic, descriptive, suggestive, arbitrary, fanciful. A name that plainly describes the service — the sort that bolts your trade onto your town — sits at the weak end and is very hard to protect, because the law is reluctant to let one business monopolise ordinary words. A coined word is the most protectable but has to be taught to customers from scratch. Suggestive names, hinting at the benefit without stating it, are where most small brands are best served. None of this is legal advice, and a professional search costs a fraction of a rebrand.
Marketplaces impose their own name rules
Etsy shop names are short — twenty characters — and allow no spaces or punctuation, which is why so many are run-together compounds; they also have to be unique across the entire marketplace, not just your category. Etsy lets you rename freely before you open the shop and restricts how often you can change it afterwards. A name that clears Etsy's squeeze frequently will not survive as an Instagram or TikTok handle intact, so check the marketplace name and the social handles together rather than one after the other.
Renaming later costs far more than the name saved
The bill for a rebrand is not the new logo. It is signage, packaging you have already paid for, review history on Google and the marketplaces that does not transfer, a domain migration that costs you ranking while redirects settle, and every customer who still remembers the old name. That asymmetry is the whole argument for spending an extra week on the shortlist and paying for one proper search before committing — the cheap decision and the reversible decision are not the same decision.
