About Dubname
Dubname is a free collection of name generators built for the moment everyone dreads: the blank name field. Whether you are setting up a new account, rolling a Dungeons & Dragons character, naming a Discord server or launching a handmade shop, the goal is to get you from "I have no idea" to "that's the one" in a handful of clicks — and to tell you the things you actually need to know before you commit to a name.
Who runs it
Dubname is written and maintained by Ali Ammar, founder and editor. It is an independent site, not a company — one person choosing the word banks, writing the guidance on every page, and answering the email. If something on the site is wrong, out of date, or missing, Ali is the person who fixes it. You can reach him directly at [email protected].
Why the site exists
Most name generators hand you a list and stop there. That is the easy half of the problem. The hard half is knowing that Xbox caps gamertags at twelve characters, that Etsy shop names cannot contain a space, that a Reddit username can never be changed, and that renaming a boat is a genuine superstition with a ceremony attached. Every generator here pairs the tool with the rules and conventions that actually govern the name you are choosing, because a name you cannot register is not a name.
How the names are made
Each generator runs on hand-picked word banks and pattern templates that produce millions of combinations in your browser, with no sign-up, no limits and no network call. An optional AI mode lets you describe your own vibe when you want something more personal. The full method — including how the word banks are chosen and where the guidance comes from — is written up on the how we build our generators page.
How the site is funded
Dubname is free and reader-supported through advertising. Nothing on the site is a paid placement, no generator or recommendation has been bought, and the advertising has no influence on what gets written. The names the tools produce are yours to use however you like, commercially or otherwise, with no credit required.
Corrections
Platform rules change — character limits move, policies get rewritten, features are retired. If you find something on this site that no longer matches reality, please tell us. Corrections are made promptly and the page is updated.
